All that’s needed to save the world is a “change of heart”
Having understanding of the human condition that finally allows us to make sense of our lives is like winning the lottery a million times over. It is truly the most incredible gift that any human could be given. The tide has turned, the deaf can hear, the lame can walk, the blind can see and the light of truth of the redeeming and dignifying explanation of human nature shines on everything now.
The frustration of having to live insecurely, always feeling the need to defend your self worth, constantly preoccupied with the feeling of being misunderstood disappears now. As the 1964 song made famous by The Animals, Don’t Let Me Be Misunderstood, says ‘But I’m just a soul whose intentions are good/ Oh Lord, please don’t let me be misunderstood’. And now humans are finally understood! We can understand ourselves and, more importantly, we can understand all of life from start to finish and the incredibly important role we have played in the fulfilment of the human journey and the story of life on Earth.
The excitement that comes from the realisation that all of us can be free from the torment that has dogged our species for two million years since the dawn of consciousness is palpable. But, with this monumental turning point in history there needs to be calm, sensible management of this new paradigm by those generations of humans who have been living in Plato’s Cave for so long. The light of the true world outside the cave can be very bright! It’s a bit like being crippled and thinking you’ll spend the rest of your life in a wheelchair, then some new technology comes along and allows you to walk; you’re so excited that you want to run but initially all you can do is get to your feet while trying not to fall over! As the conduit generation for these understandings we must recognise our limitations and work together to overcome them to build a solid base for future generations to come. This is the real excitement—knowing that we can all contribute to a future for humanity that is free from the human condition.
Incredibly, along with the gift of understanding, we have also been given the most wonderful tool to deal with our limitations, the Transformed Lifeforce Way of Living. This term might sound a little over the top so to explain; we can be transformed from a selfish, human-condition–afflicted state to a selfless, human-condition-free state. This in turn allows us to be a real force for all life and what that means is that we can at last be reconciled and aligned with our original instinctive, cooperative, loving, integrative selves, something that was not possible under the oppression of the human condition.
To get the ball rolling on this transition from a human-condition-afflicted state to a human-condition-free state there is a degree of honesty required. It is obvious that humanity is in dire straits and we are at the centre of all of the problems on Earth, so there needs to be an acceptance that we, both as a species and as individuals, suffer from the human condition. The real wonder of this though is that it was a truly heroic state, one which we had no choice but to adopt in order to find understanding of ourselves. As the words from the song The Impossible Dream say we had ‘to be willing to march into hell for a heavenly cause’’(From the 1965 musical about Don Quixote, Man of La Mancha). But now that that understanding has been found we can put the human condition and all of its damaging psychological effects behind us and achieve the full potential of our conscious thinking minds.
The next step is super simple! All that’s needed to save the world is a change of heart!
We make decisions every day about how we deal with problems, how we approach certain situations, the way we talk, the way we dress, the cars we buy etc, etc. All of this, until now, has been done from a base of self-interest, which was entirely legitimate while we were still battling with the issue of the human condition. But with the issue of our self worth—‘Am I good or am I bad?’—now reconciled, we have the option to approach every single part of our lives differently. We can now live securely in the knowledge that we are good, worthwhile humans that have been upset by the human condition. We can make the change of heart to live selflessly within this new paradigm of understanding for the first time.
Sir James Darling
As Sir James Darling said ‘selfishness is, as it has ever been, the ultimately destructive force in a society, and there are only two cures for selfishness—the regimented state which we all profess to dislike, and the change of heart, which we refuse to make. That is the choice, believe me, for each one of us, and we have not much time in which to make it. The need for decision [to have a ‘change of heart’ and live selflessly] is serious and urgent, and the sands [of time] are running out’ (1950 GGS Speech Day address; Weston Bate, Light Blue Down Under, 1990, p.219 of 386). (Read more about How the Transformed Lifeforce State will quickly repair the world in chapter 9:9 of FREEDOM).
When Darling made his speech in 1950 there wasn’t the complete, redeeming understanding of the human condition that is now available, so his truthful words fell on deaf ears. To have a change of heart we need to acknowledge our less-than-ideal state, an admission that is confronting and hurtful without the full explanation for it. But now that we can understand that we truly are the heroes of life on Earth, that we are good and worthwhile beings after all, there’s no need to overly confront anything, we can make the decision to embrace the good in ourselves and walk away from the upset caused by the human condition.
I recently received an email from a WTM member in Sweden who said, ‘I’m starting to be able to accept the simplicity of the explanation [of the human condition in FREEDOM] and of what we are free from now, and that it’s a matter of the change of heart in all its simplicity rather than something technical or mechanical’ (WTM records, 21 Dec 2015). What has been said here is incredibly important because while this explanation of humans is scientifically or mechanically verifiable, it only succeeds in its aim of freeing humanity through an emotional change of heart. We are thinking, feeling, loving beings, not machines, so while we can intellectually follow the logic of the information it means nothing without a heartfelt decision to simply accept the truth of our fundamental goodness along with the upset that the human condition caused.
Once this acceptance occurs, the need to prove our goodness evaporates and with it our insecure human-condition-afflicted way of living. The decision to take up the Transformed Lifeforce Way of Living is simply a change of heart based on understanding, nothing more, and it will put an end to all the suffering in the world.
Once this sensible response to the truth is adopted all of a sudden, the world as we intuitively know it should be, will open up. The excitement is no longer born of inspiration but real and grounded truth. It’s not something that we long for but something that we are part of. It’s a life completely fulfilled and in tune with absolutely everything. We are fully reconciled and at peace at last and once we are at peace we are free.
And all of this is possible because of the work of Jeremy Griffith. Jeremy has solved the human condition and lived his life 100% selflessly dedicated to ending the suffering on Earth and surely there can be no greater cause to support than that.
(Note: Jeremy stresses in all his books that the finding of our fundamental goodness is on the shoulders of all humans and in particular the discipline of science, see FREEDOM par. 1278.)
