1. ABOUT THE HUMAN CONDITION
AND ITS RESOLUTION
WTM FAQ 1.36 Does the search for knowledge end now that the explanation of the human condition has been found? / Will our instincts continue to criticise us now that the human condition has been solved? / Should I choose a job that doesn’t involve searching for knowledge?
The explanation of the human condition is the fundamental understanding our conscious mind has been in search of ever since we corrupted our innocent instinctive state, because it was only by finding that redeeming understanding that we could end the underlying guilt and insecurity from destroying that original innocent state that lies at the heart of everyone’s psychosis (soul-illness) and neurosis (mind-illness). Having found this key explanation does not mean that the search for knowledge now ends however, instead, as Jeremy Griffith explains in paragraph 1136 of FREEDOM, being at last free of that fundamental insecurity, it can now progress in a healthy, truthful way: ‘Of course, the search for knowledge will continue, but not from a basis of dishonest denial, and with the key piece of knowledge we needed found of the explanation of the human condition, the priority for the immediate future will be—as will be explained in the next chapter—to take up the human-condition-reconciled Transformed Way of Living.’ (You can read about the Transformed Way of Living in Section 4 of the FAQs.)
Having the redeeming, reconciling explanation of why our conscious mind had to defy our original ideal-behaviour-insisting instinctive self or soul does not mean our instincts will stop continuing to seek to impose their selfless, loving and cooperative orientation. However, being able to now understand the very good reason why the conscious mind has to search for knowledge means that these instinctive directives will no longer be interpreted by the conscious mind as ‘criticism’, and so it will no longer be psychologically upsetting; indeed our instinct’s/conscience’s feedback will forevermore be wonderful ‘guidance’.
What all this means with regard to how we live our lives is that while it’s true that we no longer have to behave insecurely and selfishly and try to prove our worth and can legitimately return to a selfless way of living, it’s also true that we have all lived in denial of this issue of the human condition and the deep sense of shame and insecurity we feel about our corrupted state for a very long time, some 2 million years! So it will take time for us to abandon all the necessary coping mechanisms we have employed. But once this information gains a foothold through enough people developing a deep appreciation and desire to support it, it will generate an enormous amount of selfless love and energy and we’ll naturally start to let go of our old habits and begin working together and focusing on doing whatever it takes to end the suffering for everyone in all the corners of the world. In terms of our employment, while there will still be a need for all manner of jobs in the new human-condition-free world, the beauty is that rather than operating in the competitive and egocentric way that we have had to do under the duress of the human condition, we simply put all our various skills and talents that served us so well when we did have to defy our instincts, into supporting the new human-condition-resolved world and getting this precious life-saving and changing information to the world. That is the transformative effect of being able to understand the human condition, as described in par. 1166 of chapter 9:4 of FREEDOM: ‘Yes, the excitement and relief of being effectively free of the human condition—the joy and happiness of being liberated from the burden of our insecurities and self-preoccupations and devious strategising; the awesome meaning and power of finally being aligned with the truth and participating in the magic true world; the wonderful empathy and equality of goodness and fellowship that understanding of the human condition now allows us to feel for our fellow humans; the freedom now to effectively focus on repairing the world; and, above all, the radiant aliveness from the optimism that comes with knowing our species’ march through hell has finally ended and that a human-condition-free new world is coming—CAN NOW TRANSFORM EVERY HUMAN AND THUS THE WORLD.’
